As photographers, we often trek far and wide in search of the next exciting wildlife image. Sometimes it comes to us, unexpectedly. It was a late afternoon day in September, and I was getting ready for dinner as I looked out at Halifax harbour, and there it was. An eagle, perched on a rock, illuminated by the late day sun. Did I have enough time? I grabbed my camera gear and as I travelled down the elevator, assembled the camera on a tripod thinking I could capture from a distance, a good still zoom, and luck. I slowly moved along the pier that was once part of historic Dartmouth Marine shipyards (played an important role in the wars), toward the eagle. I could tell he was keeping a close eye on me. I managed to get less than thirty metres before he flew away, but only after I took this photo!
